Using a Treadmill Desk for Weight Loss PDF Print E-mail

Well here is the deal.  At the end of last summer I was pretty disgusted with how much weight I had put on over the past eight years.  We had been using the boat and jet ski while camping. Just walking down to the docks got me winded pretty quickly.  While having my own business for the past eight years has been great, I have gotten more and more into a less active routine.  This happened on a few different levels and at the end of August 2010 I decided to shake things up.

Since the kids and Jen were all heading back to school I decided I would update some of my skills also. I have been running all of our corporate servers since I left my IT job back in 2003 so I have still been in the field. I just felt like I missed a few new things along the way.  I had not earned an IT certification since 1999 and that was for NT 4.0.  While working with Sever 2003 and 2008 as well as various flavors of Linux and some Cisco routers there were still pieces missing and I also missed a few things when it comes to Security.  In an effort to get “caught up” I am back in school to get my Bachelors and Masters Degrees in IT Security.  I realized quickly that this was not going to help the weight issue.

Sitting in front of my computer working for 10-12 hours a day is what got me into this situation along with about ¾ of the population here in the U.S.  I can honestly say that I don’t have the time to work out if I plan to get school done so I am decided to kill two birds with one stone.

I picked up a Treadmill Desk and I plan on walking to California while I study.  Since I just love gadgets I got a scale that automatically Tweets my weight and a Body Bugg to measure the amount of calories I take in and burn off in a day. I always seem to forget to do blog posts so automating things should help me stay on track and keep everyone in the loop.

The only thing I am really changing is getting off my butt and moving my feet.  The only supplements I take are Liquid Vitamins from http://www.pillfreevitamins.com  I truly believe they are the best nutritional supplements on the planet and have kept me from getting sick for over 10 years.

Below you will find a day to day track of weight loss, calories burned, blood pressure, and distance walked each day.  I know my blood pressure has been creeping up slowly but it’s nearly as fast as it would have without taking Body Balance.   In fact it’s not too bad for a guy that’s weighs as much as me.

The numbers for the first week were control numbers.  I had not changed anything but was just getting the gear together to do this.  I had an Airdesk that wasn’t really sturdy enough for what I am doing so I purchased something else.

Check back often and get on my case if you see the tweets or Facebook updates stop.
