Summer Travel is Heating Up

Prep, Trips No Comments

I wanted to give everyone a quick update.

Summer is heating up, and so is our travel schedule.  I hope you enjoyed the five or six live broadcasts we ended up doing last week from San Diego.  It seemed like people really enjoy the beach stuff as well as the LIVE feed while we were inland.  Sorry I didn’t have any edited in video to to put up.  Since it was a solo trip running two cameras at the same time, tends to make me a little crazy.  It’s one of the reasons why we use the LIVE streaming and you should always check it out when ever you get a chance.

During the trip to San Dieo I figured out a way to get clearer shots while walking around and fixed some of the transmission dropouts that we were having.  It hurts a little being on the bleeding edge of technology but we are making huge progress with quality and consistency.

We haven’t been doing a lot from around Chicago since some pretty bad storms have been in and out here lately.  We haven’t got hit like some of the places in Iowa, and the rest of the Midwest.  Hopefully we will all be able to start drying out soon.  We will get some really good stuff from downtown and the lakefront as soon as these weather patterns start to change.

We do have a few trips planned over the next two weeks.  So stay tuned to your computer, if you want to see live broadcast.  I really suggest you sign up for twitter and follow us through that.  Our twitter profile updates every time we start a live broadcast.  Our name on twitter is RoadWarriors.  So when you start using it do a search for us and just hit follow.

As far as the upcoming trips go.

This weekend (June 28 - July 1) we are taking a trip up to the Lake Castle Rock in Wisconsin.    My brothers and I used to fish there with my dad when we were kids.  My dad passed away the day before Christmas Eve last year, and the immediate family is going there to spread his ashes in the lake.   FishingI won’t be broadcasting spreading the ashes since that’s a little personal, and if you ask me kind of morbid.

We will be broadcasting the trip down, camping, and fishing with my brothers on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday (June 28 - July 1).  We are taking the RV and renting a couple boats. You should see some pretty good video as were on the lake and in the campground.  We always have a good time whenever we get together and you will see some very interesting family dynamics going on. We might have some video of the trip prep on Saturday but we will see how that goes and how pressed for time we are.

I will be broadcasting live from the Chicago White Sox game on Wednesday July 2nd.  We will be streaming video from around the park, and even if you’re not a baseball fan.  This is one broadcast you should not miss.

On Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday (July 3 - 7) we will be broadcasting live for the whole weekend from a campground in central Illinois.  We have a ton of activities planned and it should be a blast.

There are a few more things planned for July, and I will let you know about it once we firm up the details. We are watching the gas prices very closely and trying to determine a start date for the Route 66 trip.  As always, things come together at the last moment.  So make sure you subscribe for updates, and don’t miss the chance to ride shotgun for someplace you’d like to see.

Stay tuned for the LIVE video this weekend, and as always thanks for riding shotgun.

Gps Navigation System

Trips No Comments

Traveling can be an utter blast. That is of course, if you know where you’re going. Although it can be exciting to just tackle the highway with no destination in mind other than cool new places, it’s not so great when you can’t find your way back home. This is why modern-day road trips require something a bit more advanced than a paper road map that smacks you in the face every time you attempt to adjust or fold it. What you need is a GPS navigation system. Fortunately these are available in any electronics store now days. So if your vehicle didn’t come standard with one, no worries. Add one of these nifty innovations to your dashboard. The next time you hit the highway, you’ll know the best route to anywhere you please.

We all recall a few past road trips as children. Some of them probably consisted of our folks getting lost and/or confused. If your family was anything like mine, your father would drive most of the time, while your mother struggled endlessly with a map. The whole time this was going on, you were probably fighting in the back seat with your sibling or jamming to a Walkman. Yeah, sound familiar yet? Anyway, this is pretty much how road trips went for our family. One of my favorites was to the Mall of America. We were driving from Elkader, Iowa all the way up through Minnesota. It wasn’t too bad overall. Although once we got close to the mall, my father refused to acquire directions from anyone around. Fortunately we finally found it with the trial and error process. Thank God! A new GPS system would have taken us straight to this location without effort. Where were these back then?

Is it time for your next adventure yet? Plan your road trips using the web. This makes things so much easier. If you don’t have a GPS system, the Internet can do all the work for you ahead of time. Personally I like to use both when heading out on crazy road trips with the family. It’s nice to have the device and hard copies to resort to if need be. One aspect you will want to pay attention to when planning road trips is the route. There are different routes to many places. Are you looking for the shortest one or the scenic one? Just some food for thought. Happy tripping!

Going to California

Prep, Trips, Videos No Comments

I’ve been debating whether or not to broadcast the trip I am about to go on.  I am not taking the RV this time. I have to fly to California for two days.

I asked a couple people that follow Road Warriors Live, and they said sure, why not we would love to see it.  So starting today, I will be broadcasting live on and off for the next three days.

Bookmark this page and don’t forget we still need your vote at www.seero.com/contest.php

This should be some pretty interesting stuff and give you an insight into what I do. You will see how I can afford to be able to drive all over the country and spend this much time with my kids.

I hope you enjoy the video, and don’t forget we still need your vote.

Primary Considerations In Purchasing Your RV

Trips No Comments

There is a lot of detail that goes into buying a recreational vehicle. An RV is where you will have some of the best vacations of your life and is the closest thing to camping without actually going “all the way.” Before you even consider purchasing an one, you should weigh the type of motor home and RV options for which you are actually looking.

You need one that fits your lifestyle as well as your entire family. There are many differences among the numerous recreational vehicles on the market such as space, size, value, and how the RV is designed to be used.

Recreational vehicles are priced according to size and amenities. Typically the larger ones are more expensive, but there are some smaller models that are completely decked out from top to bottom and can cost you a lot of money as well. Recreational vehicles typically range in price from about $20,000 to over a million dollars, depending on how much luxury you seek, so an important initial consideration is whether you will need an RV loan to drive one off the lot.

Before buying a recreational vehicle, you need to be aware of the classes of the RV’s on the market. The Class A recreational vehicles are the most luxurious, largest, and generally the most expensive, whereas the Class B are more like modified van conversions with extensions built into them.

These are considerably smaller than the Class A, but are consequently budget friendly. Class B RV’s work well for beginners who have never previously owned an RV, and are an excellent option for the value. They also provide better fuel efficiency and ride well, even on off-road excursions.

Then there is the Class 3 category which is the most budget friendly and convenient for weekend trips. This choice is for the family that wants to get away once in a while but doesn’t need luxury or lots of space in an RV.

You can negotiate the price of your recreational vehicle just as you can when buying a new car. You may even be able to purchase a used model for a reasonable price. To gain a good idea for best prices on recreational vehicles, you can visit a regional RV show in your area.

Many RV showroom employees will know when the next one is coming up. This is the best way to compare which RV will suit your needs and preferences.

Always test drive an RV before you buy it to make sure you can handle the size. Always! They are considerably larger than automobiles and may take a little getting used to, so you want to make sure you feel comfortable driving it.

Also, the test drive is a way to discover whether that model of RV will work for you when it comes to understanding how everything works inside of it. Renting is a wise option if you want an extended test drive. For sometimes as little as $100 a day, you can rent the RV of your choice and take it on the open road.

Although purchasing a recreational vehicle is a big step, the rewards it offers are wonderful when evaluating its considerable benefits for both travel and vacation.

Getting Educated On Travels

Trips No Comments

Though you might want to take time out of the school year to take your children on a trip, most schools want you to tell them that you are going to partake in educational travel. They don’t want children to miss any more school than necessary, so if you are planning a trip, you want to include some educational activities to keep the schools happy. Most vacations do have some educational value, and just learning about a new place by visiting it can be enough.

When you visit a new country, you can consider that educational travel. You have to learn how the people live, how communicate (in some cases), and you will learn about local traditions, customs, and ways of life. This is educational travel for just about anyone no matter how old you are. You may find something like a safari is one of the most valuable learning experiences you can have as a family. You could visit the capitol of a country to learn about how their government works, and how it might differ from your own country. You can also visit areas where wildlife is protected, or where events in history have happened.

You might include trips to zoos and local points of interest when you go on educational travel trips. Your kids can learn about animals they may have never seen before, and they can often see plants they may have only read about in books. You can visit local museums to learn about the culture, and festivals are always great additions to educational travel. When you meet new people anywhere in the world you are going to learn about them, and you are going to take those experiences home with you for the rest of your life.

You don’t have to go far from home for educational travel. You can find spots in your own state that would qualify. Those that live in Pennsylvania might want to take a trip to Amish country to learn about a different way of life. While there they can see Hershey. They can visit the wax museum, view a large collection of miniature trains, and perhaps find some time to just explore the capital of the state. All of these activities would easily fall under the category of educational travel, and the best part is that it will be fun as well. Best of all, your children will have so much fun they won’t even realize they are learning something.

Planning A Disneyland Vacation: Top Travel Tips

Disney World No Comments

For many families, planning a Disneyland Vacation is part of the fun of the vacation itself! For others, however, it can be a headache. Before you begin planning your vacation, determine whether or not you are really up to planning the trip yourself or not.

If you don’t want to plan your own trip, you have several options. Of course, you can have a travel agent make all of the arrangements for you, but for the best Disneyland experience, you might be better off using the Disney Vacation Planning Services.
Either way, you can have every single aspect of your trip planned for you. Once you get there, all you will have to do is follow your Itinerary.

If you prefer the fun involved in planning your Disneyland vacation yourself, there are some things that you absolutely must not leave out of the planning stage. Before you can decide what you will be doing at Disneyland, you must determine which dates you will be there. The parks offer different things at different types of the year, with many different themes and entertainment to choose from.

Once you know when you will be at Disneyland, the next step is to figure out what you will be doing each day that you are there. Once you’ve set up your travel arrangements and your hotel reservations, there are a few more things you must consider.

Food is one thing you might want to arrange in advance. Disneyland is a very [spin[busy|popular[/spin] place, and having reservations at some of the more popular restaurants is recommended. These reservations can be made well in advance – before you ever leave home.

When deciding which attractions at disneyland you want to visit, use a map of Disneyland as a guide. This will make it easier to spin]plan|arrange|schedule[/spin] time for attractions that are near each other.

Keep your budget in mind. Often, by making arrangements through travel agents or through the Disneyland Vacation Planning Services, you will be able to get better deals – which can save you money.Look for these deals, and save as much money as you can on your hotel and food.

If you have small children with you, keep their priorities in mind – they have less interest in where they will sleep and the food that they will eat, and more interest in what they will see and do!

Face painting is a great skill to acquire. Think of all those themed parties your kids get invited to. Not forgetting Halloween of course. And it’s great fun too.

Cheapest Gas Prices Within 5 Miles

Prep, Trips, Uncategorized No Comments

The experts are predicting $7.00 a gallon gas prices here in the states by the end of summer.  I know some countries have been paying this for a while, but from what I see in the international news.  Everybody’s prices are going up at about the same rate.

Cheap_gas_pricesI’m not sure if you guys realize this, but our RV has an 80 gallon tank.  And then to top it off it has a diesel engine.  As you can imagine.  I am always scouring different places online, like gas Buddy and a few of the other websites on where to find the cheapest gas prices.

Well today I ran across cool little app that I can embed right here on the blog.  As long as you know what ZIP code you’re in you can find the cheapest gas prices within 5 miles.

I was just going to use this for myself, but I decided to share it with everyone instead.

All you need to do is Bookmark the Road Warriors  page then come back to it whenever you need to get the cheapest gas price near you.

Check it out now to use the application.

We Need Your Vote

Prep, Videos, Winning E-mail 1 Comment

I hate to ask, but we could use a quick favor.

I just found out that we are finalists in a contest for the streaming video service we are using.

If you like what we’ve been doing and would like to see more we could really use a vote in this contest.  The way it looks right now we’re in the running for the top three, but I know you can take us to number one.

So here’s the deal go to www.seero.com/contest.php and vote for RoadWarriors.  I think you will have to create an account, but it only takes a couple seconds and they don’t ask for too much information.  All they want is a username, password and e-mail address.

It will really help us out and let us know that you would like to see more streaming video.

If everything works out as planned.  We should be taking a long trip, with lots of video at the end of the month.  The problem that were running into is that my five-year-old has T-ball until the end of June.  And I have taken a trip to California mid-June.

If it wasn’t for the prior commitments we’d already be on the road and taking advantage of the gas prices while they are still low.  I know, we think that gas prices are high now, but from what I’m hearing the experts are saying that they’re going to be a lot higher by the end of the summer.

As soon as we have something definite for a destination I will post it on the calendar.

Even though we will not be going on an extended trip this month.  Stay tuned for some weekend video streaming from some of the festivals going on in the area.  We might be able to get to something today, depending on the weather from the bluesfest held in downtown Chicago.

In the meantime, if you could go to www.seero.com/contest.php and give us a quick vote, we would really appreciate it.

Stay tuned for video today weather permitting.

Thanks,
Steve
