Gentlemen Start Your Engines

Sorry for the long delay in between postings.  I am sure you thought that we have dropped off the face of the earth or we ditched the RV and went back to work.

I just wanted to check in and let everyone know what is going on.

We have been busy preparing for the summer and getting our trip schedule together.  We are also working out the bugs as far as video and audio transmission on the road.  We have actually taken a couple trips since I last posted but they were for testing equipment and working out some of the kinks that we experienced on the way to and from Florida.

The main website work is still not done since developer we use ran into some problems. We have a very cool trip planned for the end of April and unless they get their work finished we will need to use the back up site again. http://www.roadwarriorslive.com/BackUp since the camera is not live now you might get a 404 error when you try to bring it up.  When the camera is on that site will load just fine for you.

Now that your updated on the tech stuff here is where we are with the trip schedule.

Due to the spiraling cost of gas as well as some new family commitments we have decided push the date of the Route 66 trip until the end of the summer.  We were not expecting Diesel Gas prices to climb to over $4.50 a gallon and with an 80 Gallon tank it gets cost prohibitive pretty quickly.  We will still be making the trip but have decided to combine it with other business.  Instead of making 2 or 3 cross country trips this summer we are cutting it down to just one at the end of Summer.  We will be taking our time getting there and back so it works out better for you while riding shotgun.

Instead of taking the Cross Country trips we have decided to stay a little closer to home base and take frequent trips within a one day drive.  This should also work out better for everyone since you will not be staring at the road all the time but also enjoying some cool vacation spots in the Midwest.

Since some of you are not in the Midwest I know you might think of unsubscribing now but I have something for you too.  I have invited a few friends to also post here on their travels.  This way we can all get a little taste of different places to go and things to do and you don’t have to wait on us to get there.  Keep an eye out for those posts.  Comments on those posts also qualify you for our souvenir give-a-ways.

That brings me to more exciting news we have to share with you.  On Memorial Day weekend we will be testing out some new technology that will let you come along not just for the ride but when we are out and about.  We will be testing a way to get you LIVE VIDEO when we are out of the RV and exploring. Will will still be hooked to the GPS so you will be able to see where we are.

Next Trip
I have been invited to the NASCAR Race at Lowes Motor Speedway on Memorial Day weekend.  This will be a solo trip and I will be taking the RV.  The plan is to get on the road early Thursday morning and get there and setup before dark.  It’s a 700+ mile trip so I will need you to keep me awake.  I will be transmitting video the GPS will be running.

Once I am setup and if everything works out as planned you will be able to see the party at the campground on Thurs, Fri, Sat, Sun, & Mon.  From what I understand things can get a little crazy so you will want to tune in and see what trouble we get into.

Mark your calendar for the trip: May 22 2008 I should be starting around 3:00 or 4:00 in the morning and driving all day.  Then also set a reminder for yourself to check-in the whole weekend and he drive back on Monday.

Stay tuned for updates as we get closer.  I can’t wait to get back on the road again.

P. S.  We will be giving out Souvenirs so start commenting now to get in the running.

Driving back From Walt Disney World

Disney World, Souvenirs, Trips 1 Comment

Just wanted to le everyone know we are back on the road Friday morning.

Had a great time at Disney and more videos will follow.  We did a live show while we were here so I hope you were able to catch it.

The trip back will take about 3 days so you will be able to Ride shotgun all the way back over the weekend.  To be honest I am not looking forward to heading back to the cold weather.

From the weather reports it looks like spring is still a few weeks off.  We really do need to get back to meet with the Travel Channel for a few days.  Then another day of packing and off to California for a few days.  We will be flying out to California since we are under a deadline.  We should be back pretty quick and then the planning starts for the summer trips.

Don’t forget to join us on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for the trip back from Sunny Florida.  We are looking forward to you riding along.

Steve

Winning Souvenirs From Your Road Trip

Souvenirs, Winning E-mail 4 Comments

I was going to keep this a secret until we were on the road but after reading one of the comments here (the only one) I thought maybe I should let you know a little early.

The question came up on why you should subscribe to get exclusive trip updates.

I know when I hit a Blog or website everyone seems to want my e-mail address to sell me something.  I almost never give out that information anymore or I use an account that goes straight into the trash.

I never understand why someone tries to get my e-mail for one reason and then sends me something I did not want or need. The problem is so bad that when I am on the road my Cell Phone is flooded with so much Spam I spend at least 30-60 minutes a day trying to delete it all.

We have had websites on the Internet for over 10 years. We have always been careful about the e-mail we send out.  One of the first questions we ask is:
Is this useful or can we just let you know the next time you come back to visit the site?

If it’s not useful or timely we just don’t send it out.  Rest assured if you get an e-mail from us it’s either a Blog Post or information you want/need.  We NEVER give your information to ANYONE!!!  We have seen websites do that and it’s one of the reasons we ALL get so much spam.  We treat e-mail addresses just like we treat our own credit card numbers.  Keep them under lock and key until you need them and then put them right back when your done.

Sorry for getting on the soapbox but I am really sick of junk e-mail and websites lying about what they will do with your information.

So what makes us so different?  Why should you send us your info after everything I just said?  Well if you want trip updates, special event notices, and some free stuff then it’s a no-brainer.

1. You will only get updates on what’s going on here plus special notifications about Live Broadcast Events, and Contests.  We keep pushing the envelope on fresh new content and delivering it to you in ways that have never been done before.

Just to give you an idea of how fast things change around here.  When we first started this site it was just a way for our family and friends to track us via GPS as we traveled across the country.  Now we have Live Streaming Trip Cameras, Remote Live Broadcasting, and by the end of March there will episodes on the Travel Channel.

The best thing is we are just getting started. As comments, questions, and polls come in we will be adding new stuff everyday.
2. You Get a Chance to Win Stuff.
When you go on a Road Trip there is always that one Souvenir that you just have to have.  There is no reason why you should not be able to get it as you Ride Shotgun with us.

We will be giving away souvenirs at random to anyone that has subscribed for trip updates.  We will also be giving them away  to anyone that posts a comment so make sure we can contact you if you do post.

Some might call it bribery.  I just call it encouraging discussion and participation.

So get the updates and get some free stuff in the process.

Make sure you use an e-mail that you check daily.  We will need to ask you some questions so we can get you something that is special for you. We want to make sure that this is not a Souvenir that will end up in the garage gathering dust.

Bill W. is the person that posted the comment that started me on this whole topic. He is our first lucky winner of a Road Trip Souvenir.  I would tell you what he is getting but I want to let him do that after he gets it.

Sorry about the link but I also need to verify something for Technorati.
